Recovery

Monday was a nice, much needed recovery day. I did 3 miles, followed by a workout with Ruggerfest. I felt very, very tired. It was a bad run. I have got to get more sleep.

Epicness

This was by far the best run i've ever done. I had to run at night because of work and Father's day....HOPE EVERYONE HAD A GOOD FATHER'S DAY....I did my long run starting at 9:30. I went back to the old neighborhood and ran places i have never run before. I went onto a rock road that led into pure blackness and woods. It was very sketchy, so i didn't spend much time there. I also, for the first time, became someone who ran just outside the stores so that all the people could see me and look at me awkwardly. I ended up doing 10.5. This is the most relaxed and free i have felt all summer. I plan doing these night runs with other people as well. Everyone needs a taste of this.

Felt Goooood

I was a little nervous i wasn't going to feel too good on my run this day, but turns out i felt great. On the schedule it said to do 5, so naturally, i did 6. I didn't want to stop whatsoever. I was hydrated, i felt fresh and relaxed. I really wish i could feel like this every day.
quote of the week:
"An athlete who tells you the training is always easy and always fun simply hasn't been there. Goals can be elusive which makes the difficult journey all the more rewarding."

Same Amount

This was also just another day. I did split again; so it came out to be 8. I had to work around my work meeting and work, so i had to be very punctual.

Split

One of my options on the training plan was to split runs to save me. So one of my runs i headed over to the old neighborhood and ran around there. I just went around and thought about different memories. One thing i did was run to my grandma's old house. I stopped by on the porch and said a prayer (R.I.P. Regina "Jeannie" Krupp 4-5-10). Then i did my shorter run by my current house, just tried to fight through it. Nothing too particular happened this day. I did 8 total.

Old School

First, i've just been very busy, so that's why i haven't blogged. Last WEdnesday i did 5 miles with a good friend (known since i was 3), some of you know him as Caleb Ford, i know him as cfbasketball92. We ran around my old neighborhood, and other plenty of places that we wreaked havic. One memory that we brought up, which we pointed out as we ran over the spot, when we got chased down by a drunk man in an SUV yelling at us. He actually got out of his car, but i won't get into details on the story. However, it is a good one. I felt good, a little parched, but then again who isn't this time of year. We talked about a lot of the memory we had in grade and school and together. Whata day it was. I look forward to more runs with my good friend cfbasketball92.

Back in Business

I got to start the plan today with a 5.5 mile run. I went back to De Smet for a run, and saw some old teamates and my old coach. It was very nice to see them, but after all, i was there for a workout and a run. However, my friend "Ruggerfest" and i were surprised because of the fact that there was a freshman weight training class going on. We needed to improvise, so we went back to my house and worked out. Luckily my house has all the ammenities that any gym has, so we lucked out. We had a great workout. I added a few new exercises to the workout, and they turned out to do good things for us. Today was an ab day, so we did 2 sets of 1:00 planks, 2 sets of 20 leg lifts, and a new exercise called the "drop plank." you get into push-up position, but have a partner take your legs. Your partner drops a leg unexpectedly, and you are suppose to not let it go to the ground. You put the pressure on the abs; it was a killer. I will do song of the week today. It is "Tripping Billies" by the Dave Matthews Band. Simply, i picked it because i am going to the concert tomorrow night at the Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre, it is my favorite DMB song, and i hope to see it live tomorrow night. Here it is:

Physically Cannot

I got my wisdom teeth pulled/dug out yesterday, so i was ordered by the surgeon to not run for at least four days...so looks like i will wait until Monday to run/workout.

Let it begin

I am back to running. I ran 3 miles today, and did a workout with my good friend Eoghan "Ruggerfest" McCarthy. We did weights and then some of the "Boyle-Stack Routine." It involved getting 35 lbs. weights. Doing 5 squats then sprinting to the other side of the wrestling room and doing 5 push-ups. Sprint back, 5 squats, then do push-ups up to 20, and then back down from 20 while doing 5 squats everytime. Then, we set across from each other and did sit-up exercises with the medicine ball (three of them, but they are hard to explain on this). Then did a standing exercise with the medicine ball, but again, is hard to explain via blog post. I was happy to get back outside and run. It made me feel less like a bum and more excited to get to my potential and stay healthy. This all means i am back to eating healthy, staying hydrated, and following the plan (officially). song of the week is "All Because of You" by U2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJidOOmAl8c
Had to pick this because i have been in a "Rocking out" mode lately, and this has been the most popular song of choice. This song fits because the more i listen to it, the more i want to do to get better for the upcoming xc season. Quote of week Thursday or Friday.

Early Out

I had to cut it short today because of dehydration and a horrible cramp. I was planning on doing 5.5 miles, but i decided to only do 4.5 and do 5.5 tomorrow. Even though i felt horrible, it was still a good run. The more i hit the hills by my house, the faster i will get into shape. I also got some great news today. I got an email about my running plan from SLU. The Assisstant coach wanted to know my p.r.'s, and how healthy. i was. For the first time in a long, long, long time i was able to say i was completely healthy. I should be getting the plan within a few days. Now my summer can really kick-off.

Could've Done Better

I stepped into my 5 mile run thinking I was hydrated enough, but I was not. I felt the consequences of this by getting tired much quicker than I have been this week. Luckily, this tiredness came after the first three miles, so I did not have to go that long being tired, thirsty, and light-headed. Once again, I have to repeat myself, the hills were great. I actually did not think much different than yesterday. I thought about the same things and just thought about what I need to do to get to do to be success this upcoming cross-country season.

Tiring day

Today was very busy and long day. I had to work from 8:45-2:15 and then come home and run in this heat that I am still not use to. I did a 4 miler. Since I usually do out-and-backs around my house, i got to on another big hill for extra work. I extended the run a mile, so i got to go that extra half mile down the road that got me to work even harder and get my heartrate up. The thing i love about running around my house is the fact that even if I go at an easy pace, it gets my heartrate up and gets me in shape faster. Most people complain about running on hills, but I have come to love running on hills, and have found myself going places where the hills are actually bigger and harder to get the extra effort in. Even in these short runs it helps all that much more. Nothing too particular happened on the run today, just me hitting the roads. I will say at the end of the run i was feeling it, though, because of the heat, but it won't take long before I get use to it. Gotta get more sleep, but fortunately I don't work tomorrow morning, so that won't be a problem. Off to make my fruit smoothie. Here is the quote of the week; applies to training and that whatever i do now works toward the future:

"If you want to become the best runner you can be, start now. Don't spend the rest of your life wondering if you can do it."

Ain't Back Yet

Today, i did a nice 3 mile run. Still waiting on the training plan from my college coach, but that will likely/hopefully come by the end of the week at the latest. I decided to go with headphones today just to switch it up a little bit considering I usually don't use them on runs. As a car drove by, early in the run, the two nice young ladies that were thought to be my age, honked and gave me a wave. Got the first "notification" of the summer from a car; fortunately it was a good drive-by, not the usual use of profanities or scream by the drivers at the runner(s). Today's title has meaning to it because it is the song of the week's title. "Ain't Back Yet," by Kenny Chesney. I thought about my past four years and all of my injury problems. I decided that i'm "not back yet." In other words, I have not come even close to my potential as a runner. I also decided that since i'm "not back yet," i will actually have to train and do it consistently in order to reach potential and move on to the next level successfully. Even though it was only a three mile run, good still came out of it because of me finally realizing you have to train and work hard year-round in order to be successful and injury free.
I had to work around my schedule today. Had to get the oh-so-dreaded PHYSICAL at the doctor's office today, along with two shots; one in both arms. Now i have to work at 5:30, so i had to do it right in the middle of the day...which i did yesterday. That trend'll stop once i actually start to do longer runs. Either evening or morning runs. The quote of the week will come tomorrow, here's the song of the week:

Training Begins

Today was my first run since my last high school track race at De Smet. I took a long, but much needed, eight-day hiatus from running. I started my cross-country training this summer with a nice 2.5 mile run. It felt good to get outside. I have been like a bear in hibernation the past week, so it was nice to do what i love to do. That is running. One big thing i have to work on, though, is getting back to what i was doing during the school, year. I need to start eating healthy again, being hydrated (especially with the summer temperatures starting to come around), getting rest (which should not be a problem), and just knowing what days to take easy and what days to go hard. Now it's time to sit-back, drink some water, eat healthy and relax the rest of the day. However, this is my last day of doing so. I start work, at Dierbergs, back-up again tomorrow. I will be putting in 20-30 hours a week in, so I need to budget my time well for my running and working out. Before I end today's post, I just want to say that weights and my workout(s) will start next week. I will be posting those as well.
--i'll be posting a quote of the week and song of the week
